Bitmain’s Antminer S19 Sells Out on First Day

  • Bitmain announced the official sales launch for its Antminer S19 series on Mar. 23, which sold out in the first 24 hours.
  • One customer claimed the shipping date was set for May 11 – May 20, after bitcoin’s halving.

Cryptocurrency mining rig manufacturer Bitmain sold out its first round of Antminer S19 units within the first 24 hours.

Bitmain, the world’s largest manufacturer for bitcoin ASIC miners, published a tweet on Mar. 23 announcing the official sales launch for domestic units of the Antminer S19 series, with an international launch to follow.

#Antminer is proud to announce the official sales launch of the next-gen #AntminerS19 Series! (Selling domestically with international sales following soon) For those interested to know more about the product, kindly contact our sales team. #Bitmain #AntminerS19Pro pic.twitter.com/z9bt6VWiw8

The Antminer S19 rig will have reported hashrate of 95 terahashes per second (TH/s), with the Pro version capable of 110 TH/s and energy efficiency of 29.5 joules per terahash. The base model is set to cost miners around $2,180, while the pro version costs $2,920.

However, Jason Urgo, who was able to make a purchase before the sellout, claimed the shipping date was set for May 11 – May 20, 2020.

Bitcoin’s next halving event is scheduled to take place on May 12, making the timing of Bitmain’s shipping inconvenient for miners who were hoping to use the S19 prior to the block reward reduction.

Urgo, who runs the social media analytics firm Social Blade, questioned whether Bitmain was using the new rigs to mine bitcoin in the lead up to the halving, before shipping them to customers.

Shipping May 11thish. Gee I wonder why you picked that date lol. I thought you guys said you didn’t use them yourself first before shipping them? Or is it just to make sure the ones you do have for you get the most out before you ship these. lolhttps://t.co/GNmLiGPHEu pic.twitter.com/0Jvd2H4g1D
